Final Project !!

My final Project summry is typed out & will be handing it out in class tomorrow (Tuesday) !!

Seee everyone at the TPAIN event !!

Gleeeeeeeeeeeee !!!

So I guess during my whole surgery process I missed this Glee Entry.
But I`m here & ready to speakkkkkk on it ! - READY. SET. Gooo ! Lol

So I actually have watched the "Never Been Kissed" episode & it was my first actual Glee episode that I watched. Mind you, I'm not such a Glee fan ( not being the fact that I auditioned for the show & never got it . . "tear" Lol) but the show didnt strike me in general to keep watching.
But anywhoooo I watched the episode again to note some stuff down and better comprhened it with this talking point, and once again the episode didnt come off as striking to me, I didnt really realize so much of the SCWAMP. I mean there were little things that I put together ( such as straightness, gay & lets not forget about the characters being mostly black ) but with others. It was so set forward for me.

I'm not against the show or nothing. But the episode was interesting. I say it was surprising, not because Kurt's bully turned out to be gay, but because he turned his yelling and threats into a kiss. It was a likely choice to have the person bullying Kurt the most aggressively to be doing so because of his own issues of sexuality. What wasn't expected was the path it all took in this episode, and it was not an easy path.

When a Good Girl Can Be Bad !!!

So apparently I`ve behind on a few readings & it's about time to catch up. With this crazy schedule & long hours at work , I've FINALLY found the time to sit here & catch up on my blog entries.!!

After reading "Being a Good girl can be bad." I then realized that I don't think I understood how much of a good girl I was until I grew up (now). I was always the loud girl, the expressive girl. I had no problem telling everybody how I felt all the time, probably too often. I think it was more that I noticed around me that my friends very often could not express themselves when they were unhappy. I had so many confrontations in my youth with girls that became disasters because nobody had the skills to express difficult emotions and have a difficult conversation. Now, when it comes to conversation - this whole "Being a Good Girl can be bad" came in place , with trying to find yourself & understanding the way of life (as to Alice).
However, these women also score high on traditionally feminine traits such as sociable, compassionate, understanding, and eager to work with others. Did you notice in the movie that: All positions of power are actually held by women in the movie! The mother heads Alice's home and the Fiance's mother seems to rule in his house. Whereas, in the second realm, both the good and the bad kingdoms are ruled by.... queens! Men only play secondary roles.
Hmmm!

Now back to sexs & defining I truly believe that theres so much you can talk about with this "Talking Point" that is given to us.
But to keep myself from drifting off to different things ( which I always tend to do. Habit , i assume LOL :X ) The use of “sex” in the media may be most notable in advertisers’ placement of provocative, sexy women in ads in order to sell their products. These images can have adverse effects on both men and women. For example, consider the Trojan ad where the girl with big boobs has a condom sticking out of her bra. First of all, only her boobs are shown in the ad which hiddenly says something negative about the message being sent to guys about what’s important about a girl. Second, the more overt message is clear: Use Trojan condoms and you’ll sleep with big-breasted girls. This is a terrible message to be sent because it’s promoting the physical attractiveness of a woman as her only purpose

Derassi 712-Live To Tell Promo

In the season premiere of season 7 ("Standing in the Dark"), after snowboarding with Peter and Manny, Darcy and Peter begin making out. However when Peter attempts to push Darcy to the next level, she stops him, reminding him of her abstinence promise. After an argument, the two separate at the party, leaving Darcy to drink. At one point, she leaves her drink unsupervised, and unbeknownst to her, a stranger spikes her drink with roofies. After passing out when attempting to reconcile with Peter, Darcy is shown being led into a bedroom with an unknown person.[1] The next morning, Darcy awakes to find herself in bed with Peter. Although Darcy insists that she remembers having sex the previous night with whom she assumes to be Peter, Peter denies it.[2] Back at Degrassi, after the news gets out about Darcy and Peter, Darcy is forced to surrender her abstinence ring to the Friendship Club. Peter eventually learns that there had been a roofie-user at the snowboarding party the two had attended, and suggests to Darcy that perhaps she had been drugged and raped by the user—an idea that Darcy refuses to accept. After being informed by a doctor that she has chlamydia, Darcy admits to Manny that although she doesn't remember having sex with Peter, she remembers having sex with someone, although she wasn't sure who. Later, during a Spirit Squad practice, Manny notices Darcy's absence and goes off to find her. She finds Darcy under a running shower, fully clothed, having slit her wrists in a suicide attempt. Darcy is rushed to the hospital, where Manny is questioned by Darcy's mother as to the supposed cause of Darcy's actions. Manny denies knowing anything as she knows that rape victims need to heal on their own, and that they can tell their loved ones when they are ready.

When Darcy returns to school, she is told to receive counseling three times a week by Ms. Sauve. Although she doesn't talk about the incident with the counselor, Darcy's counseling is reduced to once a week. However, the sentence is short-lived when Darcy shows poor behavior in class and her counseling sessions are increased once again. Eventually, Darcy reveals to Mr. Simpson that she was raped, and Mr. Simpson offers his support. After breaking up with Peter, Darcy starts flirting with Mr. Simpson.[3] Mr. Simpson confronts Darcy about this and Darcy goes insane and grabs a pair of scissors, wanting to talk. When Mr. Simpson asks her to give him the scissors, Darcy cuts off a chunk of her hair and runs. Mr. Simpson asks to see Darcy in the Media Immersion room where Mr. Simpson, Ms. Hatzilakos, and her mom are waiting. Darcy, feeling betrayed, lies and tells her mother and Ms. Hatzilakos that Mr. Simpson has been the one who is touching her and is treating her like a "teacher's pet". Until the situation is investigated, Mr. Simpson is told to leave Degrassi. Manny learns that Darcy's claims are false and when she goes to confront her, she finds Darcy on the roof of the school with Johnny DiMarco. After Darcy's actions suggest that she's going to jump off the roof, Manny stops her and tells her that she must confess to the rape. As a result, Darcy apologizes to Mr. Simpson for her lies but he says he can't fully forgive her because the effects of the accusations are too damaging.

Twilight !!!! #1O

TWILIGHT * The Movie !

I watched Twilight for the first time last year and I feel like with every movie you watched twice you view things differently and have more to say about it.
I’m not going to lie — while watching the movie for the second time (knowing that I`m not really a Twilight Fan) I was fascinated.I found it interesting in regards to today’s society. Stereotypical vampires are known for their selfishness, the way they drain people of blood and life without a second thought because it’s just what they do, what they are.

I connected it to many people in our generation (as in) love and relationships. Some people think, by giving themselves over to someone, by making themselves sexually available, it will automatically result in a lasting relationship. When it doesn’t, they try again. And again. It becomes a cycle, until their partners are little more than vampires, taking and taking and never giving.

Edward, then, is the “anti-vampire”—he can’t help what he’s become. Bella’s blood is the most appealing thing in the world to him, but he doesn’t take it. He doesn’t give in to the selfish route. Why? Because he loves her. Her, not her blood, not her body. He loves her “Bella-ness” (Hahaa, name has a ring to it! Lol). Whether you think their love is valid is your own opinion, but if you read it from that perspective, it really becomes a book about abstinence. Which, you can’t deny, is interesting in terms of vampire culture and literature. Honestly, it’s an old-fashioned love. Nowadays, people might not want to admit they’re “waiting for marriage” because it goes against the norm. Taking away societal pressures, religious convictions, and widespread opinion, there isn’t really a right or a wrong. There are simply two different sides, and people can argue those sides to their hearts’ content. Meyer’s series just happens to be on one side, and she isn’t arguing anything. She is merely giving an example of one way of life, with a vampire thrown in for good measure.

Watching this movie again definitely widened my perspective, and I think I’m going to be able to appreciate the series all the more for it. Not because of the vampire thing going on, Lol !!!! but because, when it comes down to it, it’s a book that has affected thousands of readers in some way. Books like that, no matter how well or badly they’re written, are worth diving into and exploring simply because they reach out to that many people. Whether or not you think her characters suck, they still stand for something. It may be a simple message, a message is a MESSAGE & its still there right ?

From Knowledge to Knowledge-able !

REFLECTION: While reading Wesch "Producers and Consumers: Teens in Digital Age" I connected to it a lot. Attending Providence Public Schools we did a lot of group work. Group work in classes not only help enhance the learning of us students, but it also helped us interact with one another.
Being able to do group work breaks down the assignment and honestly helped me. I feel as though a lot of students benefit from it. Being in college, I would assume we would have more group assignments, group work etc. My Women Studies class is the only class in which I`m able to do so. Most of my classes are , listen to the teacher, look at the teacher - take notes ! - Same routine !
Group work enables students to move more readily from receiving knowledge to generating knowledge. Through talk students are able to personalize this knowledge & their thinking processes and understandings. Why don't all teachers take this into consideration ? Do students really benefit from this ?
"Managing a learning environment such as this poses its own unique challenges, but there is one simple technique, which makes everything else fall into place: love and respect your students and they will love and respect you back. With the underlying feeling of trust and respect this provides, students quickly realize the importance of their role as co-creators of the learning environment and they begin to take responsibility for their own education. "- I Agree very much, being able to feel good about what your learning and the person teaching makes the learning environment better.

Who are these Teenagers?

When you think about adolescents you think about maturingm growing up  . . and lots not forget the changes that come with it.When I began to read the conversations of A tangle of discourses: Girls Negotiating Adolescents (at the bottom) I noticed that Jan says that our generation is rude, that we make our own decisions and do our own thing. I do agree with her but I also disagree.
Agree:
I agree with Jan and her comment she made about the children of this generation and how we act. I understand that some children decided to make there own decisions, and go with whatever floats there boat.  Some kids say one thing and want it that way & some honestly don't care what you say & I understand Jan for that.
Disagree:
I disagree with Jan more than I agree with her. Saying that the children of our generation are rude, and how all teenagers are self-centered is wrong. The right word to use would be "some children/kids." I strongly believe it is the way you are raised is what shows.

Being raised by my parents it was all about respect. When my mom or dad called me or my siblings names it was "Yes Mom?" or "Yes Dad?" - nothing else ! We were taught how to respect one another also. Jan compares kids and then she doesn't , so she sort of confused me as I began to read on. There were some comments I agreed on and there was some that I didn't but overall I understood were she was coming from. I'm not saying if you were brought up in a certain kind of way that you would be self-centered or rude, - because you can be. I just believe that you can say everyone is the same, because no one is !

Throughout my adolescent years, I have grown to appreciate my family more and more. Everybody's raised different ways and I commend my parents for doing such a great job !!! Parents don't need to stop doing things like letting there child go out, watch tv, browse the internet etc - doing that will only make the matter worst. Instead be there for your children, let them know wrong from right before hand - help them understand - because your help it'll be better than expected.

Media & Ideology

On page 150 of the Media & Ideology it gives the definition of Ideology and begins to tells us (the readers) about the different implications that it gives. I feel as though  Ideology gives a different look to a lot of stuff in general. After reading I began to understand that ideology is basically a set of ideas that come from  goals, expectations, and maybe even actions & they way of looking at things.

When growing up I was big on the "Disney Princess" movies. Obviously I was young and I didnt really understand what the stories/ movies were about. The only thing i really grasped was that "beautiful girls fell in love with beautiful men, had beautiful kids and lived a beautiful life." - -  As I grew up I began to see what I have never saw before.

One day I was watching The Little Mermaid with my younger brother, and I finally got it! I saw and understood exactly what I never saw. Basically what the movie was stating was that it is okay to abandon your family, change your body, and etc JUST FOR A a man.  - That's NOT what I saw when I was younger & I know that's not what a lot of younger children see either watching these Disney movies (not that it's only Disney movies).

After reading Media & Ideology I began to surf the net and came across a really interesting article called The Future of American Power which was a little similar to what the other article discussed about.
